Never argue with a fool; on lookers may not be able to tell the difference!
I recently read the above quotation and felt compelled to make a few comments. So often in a social setting I have experienced many many people trying
to win arguments and get their point across, only to have on lookers bemused at the apparent physical and or mental interaction that has taken place.
Some people so keen on winning the argument at any cost lose sight of the strategic position.
The take out for me is that we need to always be courteous and not to fall into the trap of trying to win situation at any cost. Our ideas and communication both verbal and non-verbal provide a valuable insight to who we really are. If you find yourself in a position where and argument could potentially occur, it is my experience that I say to the other person or group something along the lines of;
- “Oh that's interesting I've not heard that before”
- “I will have a look at that later”
- “Excuse me there is someone over there I would like to talk to you thank you for your time”
It is this line of thinking that had helped me out of many situations where people have been simply wrong, rude or in fact ignore it. Communication is critical at every level, please make sure that you are wise in how you use and distribute your communication skills.
Next time, please just listen to a group of people trying to impress each other with their knowledge or lack of it, it is a very interesting exercise and one you should contemplate in your networking activities.
Until next time have a great day.
